The World Today!
I found this and it got me thinking about our world and the state of it that it is in. I have thought about these issues for a while now. 5% of the world population has 90.5% of th worlds wealth. there are so maybe out there in our world that has nothing. I feel that there is something wrong with these and we need to teach our students more how to be more giving.
In my school, they fund raised for lots of things but I feel that the students really didn't see the effects of their money. For example, we raised money for the school supplies for African child but we didn't raise anything for Telemerical (which raised 5.6 millions dollars!!! YA Saskatchewan!!!) I think students should realize that there is poverty in their neighborhoods and they cna make a difference with this families. Well I'm getting kicked out of the computer lap so bye for now!

Weird. I just had a discussion somewhat about this in my EFDN class today (moral education). I had the same thought that you did (teach our children to be more giving). Then I thought... what are the odds that OUR children are in that top 0.5%? Very small. We need to make THOSE people be more giving! ... Or maybe tax them more. Ha ha. Tough issue though.
Heather, I completely agree. The school I interned at raised $800 for World Vision, which is great, but what did we do for our own community?
We need students to realize that poverty doesn't just happen in far of countries overseas but it also happens right in our backyards. Plus, Dan you're right, how many of our children are actually in that top 5%? In fact, according to the article "Saskatchewan Child Poverty Report" about 17% (2001) of children are living in poverty in Saskatchewan. 48% of those children live with a single mother running the household. We should maybe be addressing this issue.
